Airport workers Luis Marroquin, Carlos Springer, Kelvin Rondon accused of smuggling drugs
Three employees of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Inteational Airport are accused of trying to smuggle in drugs from Mexico.
More than $600,000 worth of methamphetamine and heroin were seized from luggage on a Delta flight to Atlanta in January. Two airport employees were arrested this week, but a third suspect remains a fugitive.
The drugs were discovered in an unclaimed bag on a carousel carrying luggage from Mexico City. Homeland Security officials questioned Carlos Springer, who was in charge of employees who unloaded the luggage. According to an indictment, they found incriminating coded text messages between Springer and another employee, Luis Marroquin.
Marroquin, 35, Springer, 41, and another airport employee Kelvin Rondon, 27, were arrested on attempt to distribute drug charges. Marroquin is still on the loose. Anyone with information is asked to call the Department of Homeland Security at 1-866-347-2423.
If convicted, the suspects could face a life sentence and a $10,000,000 fine.
