A TEENAGER has been arrested and charged with murder after his mother told police officers investigating the crime that she suspected he was the killer.

Officers found Daniel Neal Bus, 15, shot dead in the living room of an apartment in the city of Indianapolis, the capital of Indiana on October 17.

As they checked the scene, Carrie Qualls approached.

“Is my son involved? I’m just gonna put it out there and tell it. He’s been out here robbing people. He’s been breaking into apartments and cars and stealing things,” she said, the Indianapolis Star reported.

She was upset, teary-eyed and shaking at the time, police said.

“He’s been hiding in abandoned apartments up here and I’ve been looking for him.”

She added that her brother’s gun was stolen and that her son had access to it.

Police interviewed Carrie Qualls’ brother Brandon Boddie. He said his gun had been stolen the night before Bus was killed. A spent shell casing from Boddie’s Ruger was tested and matched a bullet found in the wall of the apartment.

One witness told police that he had seen Christian with the gun the day before the homicide. Christian Qualls, when interviewed by police, admitted stealing his brother’s gun and even admitted being in the apartment when Bus was short and killed. However, he blamed the killing on a drug dealer who reacted violently when Bus said he could not afford the marijuana he had arranged to buy.

However, everyone named by Christian Qualls had an alibi and on Friday he was put into a police line-up and when selected by a witness was charged with murder.

Vickie Morris, Bus’ mother, told Fox 59 that she is still in pain despite the arrest.

“I just want justice to be served. It’s not going to bring my child back,” she said.

“It doesn’t make the pain go away. There’s no closure.

“Everybody is talking about now you can get closure. Well I don’t have closure.

His mother still can talk to him. She can still see her child. I can’t see mine.”

Qualls has been charged with murder and a misdemeanour charge of carrying a handgun without a license.

He is being held at a juvenile detention centre with his trial by jury set for January 11.
