13-year-old Ohio boys swipe mom’s BMW, drive 650 miles to Kansas City
Cole Johnson, left, and Raheem Harris, both 13, were found by police in Kansas City on Monday after Johnson swiped his mom's BWM and drove there from Columbus, Ohio, more than 650 miles away.

A pair of 13-year-olds in Ohio swiped one of their parents’ cars and went on a three-state joyride before cops caught up to them sleeping in the vehicle in Kansas City on Monday.

Teens Cole Johnson and Raheem Harris, both of suburban Columbus, were reported missing on Saturday, the same day Johnson's mother, Catherine, told police that her son swiped her BMW, local ABC 6 reported.

Cops said Johnson took the car on Friday night, along with his mother's credit card, and picked up Harris on his way out of town.

Authorities and local media across the Midwest were alerted about the runaways as the boys headed for Califoia, where Cole had dreamed of skateboarding, according to the Columbus Dispatch.

The pair stopped for gas in St. Louis on Saturday night. Soon after, Cole's mom cut off her credit card.

Missouri cops finally caught the pair at 7:30 a.m. on Monday after someone reported seeing the BMW parked in an alleyway downtown.

Harris and Johnson were found asleep in the car, which was parked in an alleyway in downtown Kansas City.

The two were sleeping, and the car was out of gas, according to the Dispatch.

The pair didn't appear to get into any other mischief during the cross-country trek, Columbus police said.

They did, however, have time to update their Facebook pages, the Dispatch reported.

On Sunday afteoon, Johnson posted that he was headed to Califoia and, later, that he was stranded in Kansas City with no gas.

Authorities there said the boys wouldn't be charged. Johnson's mother was flying to Missouri to pick the boys up.

"To take off cross-country at that age in a very nice car . . . kids that age and park in an alley in a major city is probably not a good idea, it could've ended a lot differently," Kansas City police Capt. Steve Young told ABC 6.

Cole Johnson has a history of joyriding, according to the Dispatch.

Local police picked him up a few miles from his apartment last month. He was charged with driving without a license and lying to a police officer.
