FAMILY and friends of missing teenager Veronica Bobadilla have received disturbing text messages from her phone suggesting she may have met with foul play.

The texts read “I’ve killed Veronica. Stop texting her” and “I killed Veronica ya’ll want (sic) find her,” NY Daily News reported.

But a friend told reporters that she heard from Veronica this moing after posting a message asking for help to find her.

“I received the msg at 8:05am this moing saying ‘take that shit down from my page and I’ll go home,’ the friend, who asked not to be named, said.

“She was a great friend in school, but she don’t seem the type to run away but she’s a very beautiful girl so who’s to say I could be wrong. I told her after that that we miss her and want her to come back home.”

Bobadilla, 16, went missing from her South Carolina home about 4pm local time on Monday. Her parents fear she may have fled to meet up with a boy she met on Facebook.

Police said a message sent to a friend from Facebook was traced to a suburb in Atlanta, more than 250 kilometres from her Laurens County home.

Laurens County Sheriff’s Office posted a message to Facebook for assistance in tracking her down.

“There is a possibility that the juvenile could be travelling on her way to Texas through Georgia and Louisiana,” police said.

The case comes one week after police tracked Kentucky teens Dalton Hayes and Cheyenne Phillips across five states and more than a thousand kilometres. The pair, who were compared to depression-era outlaws Bonnie and Clyde, were arrested in Florida and said they fled to be together.
