‘Dark Knight’ massacre victim Carli Richards wants suspect James Holmes to face firing squad

At least one victim of the “Dark Knight” movie massacre says accused shooter James Holmes deserves to die like his targets did — totally helpless and in fear.

“I think death by firing squad would be totally justified,” 22-year-old Carli Richards told TMZ.com.

Richards was at the midnight screening of “The Dark Knight Rises” nearly two weeks ago at a Cinemark theater in Aurora, Colo., when a masked gunman with red hair opened fire, killing 12.

James Holmes, 24, was charged Monday with 24 counts of murder and 116 of attempted murder, and prosecutors say he could face the death penalty.

But Richards, who believes Holmes shot her in the back with a shotgun, says a simple lethal injection would hardly do justice.

“Just injecting him would be painless,” she told the website. “I had enough needles in me that night to know that a needle isn’t that bad.”

In a blog post, Richards offers her detailed account of the night Holmes allegedly barged into the movie theater, spraying tear gas and bullets everywhere. She says she initially thought the attack was “a promotional stunt from the theater.”

“I think I heard a weird popping noise and then a can or something came flying towards us,” she writes.

Richards, who has Navy training, said she recognized the scent as tear gas and fled the theater, not realizing until minutes later that she had been shot.

Her shirt soaked with blood, Richards was covered in wounds from shotgun pellets. She was taken to a hospital and is recovering, but says she hasn’t yet been able to retu to work.

A horrifying photo shows multiple wounds across Richard’s side, back and chest — so many she says she “hasn’t counted yet.”

“[James Holmes] shot me with stuff they use to shoot birds and deer,” she told TMZ.com. “I wish someone would shoot him and bleed out.”

On Tuesday, a Colorado man whose sister was shot dead in the movie theater also called for the death penalty for Holmes.

“My mother is bereft, my wife is distraught and I am heartsick and angry,” Steven Heandez told TMZ.com. “Allow the justice system to punish this murderer. I want to see him sentenced to death and I hope he sits in jail for many years waiting to die.”

Seventy people were shot in the Aurora massacre, making it the largest mass shooting in U.S. history.
