UNIVERSITY of Wyoming police say investigators traced a sexually, potentially threatening online comment to the personal computer of a former student who was the supposed target of the attack.

A police affidavit also says the computer was logged in under Meghan Lanker-Simons' user name when the comment was posted.

She was the target of a graphic comment on the 'UW Crushes' Facebook page that was written to appear as if it were authored by a conservative Republican.

Ms Lanker-Simons is a liberal advocate. The posting prompted a rally against sexual violence that she participated in.

But police say Ms Lanker-Simons authored the comment herself. She's charged with a misdemeanor count of interfering with police.

The Laramie Boomerang reports her lawyers are seeking to exclude evidence obtained by police.
