Woman calls Honda an MPG liar, wins $10k lawsuit
A Califoia woman who felt defrauded by Honda's fuel efficiency claims of 50 mpg from her 2006 Civic Hybrid sued the automaker for negligently misleading her -- and won.
Heather Peters, a former lawyer, eschewed a similar class-action lawsuit, which she determined would pay owners around $100 and a voucher towards the purchase of a new vehicle while netting trial lawyers $8.5 million.
Her victory in small claims court instead awarded her $9,867.19, or almost the maximum $10K amount allowed from the small claims process. Whether she can collect, though, is another matter: Honda plans to appeal the decision.
Do you think Honda should be forced to pay?
