Two wounded, gunman dead at Arapahoe High School shooting in Denver
Two students have been shot inside Arapahoe High School in suburban Denver, authorities say. The gunman, who was reportedly armed with a shotgun, then apparently killed himself, police said.
One of the injured students is in criitcal condition at a nearby hospital, according to a hospital spokesperson. Police on the scene said injuries to a second student are not believed to be serious.
According to law enforcement, the shooter was apparently targeting a particular teacher when one of the injured students confronted the shooter.
Denver Post reporter Ryan Parker tweeted that witnesses at the scene told him that a student shot at least two students in the school cafeteria about 1 p.m. MT.
Police and emergency vehicles are on the scene in Centennial, about 15 miles south of Denver. Hundreds of students were evacuated from the school. Aerial images from news helicopters showed students filing outside of the school and getting pat-downs from police officers.
The high school is only a few miles the Aurora movie theater where a dozen people were shot to death in 2012. Columbine High School, where 12 students and one teacher were killed in 1999, is about eight miles away.
