A crew member of the hit reality TV show 'Cops' has died after being shot during filming.

Bryce Dion was holding a microphone during the filming of a gun-fight with an armed robber in Omaha, Nebraska on Tuesday night.

The robber also died in the incident, in which officers fired an estimated 30 shots.

Police later discovered the suspect, who was on parole, was actually carrying an air rifle which only looks like a firearm.

The tragedy occurred as police patrol cars responded to a back-up call in relation to a raid taking place at a restaurant just after 9pm.

Bryce Dion, 38, had worked for 'Cops' for seven years and had just received a promotion.

In an audio of the police radio call one cop is heard describing a suspect in a “black hoodie and a white bandana”.

An officer can then be heard saying: “We have one of the 'Cops' guys has been hit by gunfire; we need a squad here now.”

Another cop then urges: “We need multiple squads, two squads."

Cortez Washington, 32, was killed by Omaha police after holding up a Wendy's using an Airsoft pistol.

A spokesman for the show said: “We are deeply saddened and shocked by this tragedy, and our main conce is helping his family in any way we can.

“Bryce Dion was a long-term member of the Cops team and a very talented and dedicated person.

“We mou his passing. An investigation is ongoing and we are cooperating with local authorities.”

Police later revealed Dion was wearing a bullet proof vest at the time of the shooting.
