Trooper Derrick Costa arrested for domestic assault
TAUNTON - A Massachusetts state trooper accused of assaulting his wife has been ordered held on $5,000 cash bail.
Derrick Costa, also facing embezzlement and drug charges, pleaded not guilty in Taunton District Court on Friday to assault. State police said Costa misses his court appearance after he checked himself into a Taunton hospital and was issued a default warrant.
He was later taken into custody and brought to the courthouse.
Police say the 40-year-old Costa hit his wife in the face and the back of the head during an argument.
Costa told police he only touched his wife in an attempt to get away.
A state police spokesman says Costa has been suspended without pay since June when the previous allegations came to light.
