Toddler dies after being thrown from seventh floor terrace by 'very depressed' woman

A toddler died on Tuesday after he was thrown from the seventh floor of a New York apartment block.

The three-year-old was allegedly flung to his death by Xiao Aiu Cai, 53, who authorities described as 'very depressed'.

Shortly after the victim fell, Cai was hauled back from the same window, witnesses said, as she attempted to throw herself out.

The incident occurred in the Flushing district of New York at around 8.30pm on Tuesday night. The youngster died later in hospital.

'I saw a woman up there screaming,' resident Cynthia Herbin, said. 'She was trying to jump off and someone was trying to stop her from jumping.'

It is claimed Cai, who was restrained and taken into custody, was living at the address but not a member of the family. She had been involved in a dispute with her daughter.

Chad Jenkins, 27, rushed to apply first aid to the toddler who was bleeding from the back of the head.

'The pulse was kind of faint, it wasn’t good,' Jenkins said.
