This man might be the dumbest criminal ever

MEET Christopher Wallace. He is single-handedly proving that criminality and the self promotional nature of social media don’t mix.

Thanks to his idiocy, the rest of us can all lea a valuable lesson — when hiding from police, don’t post your location on social media.

Mr Wallace was arrested this week when he couldn’t help but gloat on Snapchat.

The 24-year-old was wanted on burglary charges after stealing propane and wood stoves from a Pierce Pond Township in Maine. According to local media, Mr Wallace posted on Snapchat that he was back in his home town despite the fact that the police department had made it clear they were looking for him. Acting on the information, police went to the man’s house where they were once again assisted by their suspect’s Snapchat proclivities.

The sheriff’s office said he posted a Snapchat message saying police were in the house looking for him and he was hiding in a cabinet. The post immediately prompted calls to the police department who notified the officers carrying out the search.

After making the arrest, the police department decided to add insult to injury and took to their own social media to post a long account of Mr Wallace’s “cocky” behaviour.

“A search of the kitchen cabinets tued up some food, some pots and pans, and also a pair of feet,” the Facebook post said. “The pair of feet just so happened to be attached to a person, and that person was Christopher Wallace. He was removed from the cabinet and placed under arrest.”

While the apprehended man may share the name of a rap legend who often spruiked his own criminal abilities, sadly for this Mr Wallace, his criminal boasting proved less successful.

He was subsequently charged with burglary, theft and for violating conditions of parole.

Although most of us aren’t going to be running from the police anytime soon, the cautionary tale is still useful for any future games of hide-and-seek.
