Suspect in Alabama UPS shooting identified as Kerry Tesney

Police have released the identity of the gunman who shot and killed two people before taking his own life Tuesday moing at a UPS facility in Birmingham.

Kerry Tesney, 45, is from Trussville, Alabama. Authorities say he had a wife and two children. UPS fired Tesney on Monday, according to police.

Investigators say Tesney went on a rampage at his former employer and killed two people.

"It appeared the shooter knew exactly who he wanted to target at the time," said Lieutenant Sean Edwards with Birmingham Police.

The incident happened about 9:30 a.m, according to investigators.

Police say the targets were two supervisors at the package sorting facility, located near the Birmingham airport.

"We have security measures that address many situations," said UPS spokesman Steve Gaut. "We'll have to continue to investigate what happened and how they made it to the point they did."

At this time, police believe the shooter drove through a gate then tued away from the public parking lot.

Gaut says the suspect drove his personal vehicle through a dock door that is not normally used by the public.

Once the gunman was inside, he quickly found his old supervisors who were apparently ambushed.

"They immediately went into an office, where they carried out this act," said Gaut.

More than 80 people work at the UPS, but when the incident happened the UPS drivers were all gone. There were about a dozen people present when the shooting took place.

"They're pretty distraught, they're pretty upset, pretty emotional," said Edwards. "Especially those who probably witnesses, or even heard the sounds."

The shooter, a white male in his late 40s, was wearing a UPS uniform.

There is massive police presence at the scene as homicide detectives continue to investigate.
