Surprise sonar images reveal mystery plane submerged at the bottom of a North Carolina lake
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating how a plane ended up in Lake Norman.
Officials with the Charlotte Fire Department say that the single-engine aircraft was reported to the FAA after firefighters spotted it on sonar images during scheduled dive training on September 5.
The plane is about 90-feet deep in the southe portion of the lake.
No bodies were found inside the plane, and officials don't know how long it has been in the water.
Authorities haven't determined the type of plane. FAA officials are searching ownership records to find out who owned it.
