Scott County Man Richard Hubbard Pleads Guilty To 1,000 Counts Of Child Porn

GATE CITY, Va. -- "I got an anonymous call on the weekend and then I approached the State Police immediately." Mark Jenkins is the Mayor of Gate City, Virginia.

It's a small town wrestling with big news about something unthinkable here.

That someone would be involved in child poography. "You wouldn't think it would be here. Or I didn't think it would be here. This is a nice, family oriented small town and for something of this magnitude to happen here it's bothersome," says Jenkins.

On March 29th, 2010 warrants were issued to search Richard Hubbard's home and office.

What officers found was more than they may have expected.

The home where the search warrant was executed, that mr. hubbard was living in, is just off of Main Street in Gate City. Officers estimate that over 200 thousand child poography images were found on computers inside.

Commonwealth Attoey for Scott County, Virginia Marcus McClung told us they were selective in which cases decided to prosecute Hubbard on. "We only brought cases that we believed the child to be 12 or under. We found some images that we believe depicted children to be the age between 2 and 3."

McClung knows the number of charges may seem extreme, but when compared to the mountain of evidence, he says they barely scratch the surface. "At first blush you think a thousand counts, that's you know a lot of counts, and it is a lot of counts. It's one of the biggest in southwest Virginia's history. But compared to the 200 thousand counts that we could have brought, I think this is a good number to bring against him."
