Science teacher Travis Lechien accused of taking students to strip club
IT'S a lot more exciting than an excursion to the aquarium or the museum.
But a northwest Indiana teacher is in trouble after he allegedly took several of his high school pupils to a strip club to celebrate a student's birthday, reports The Huffington Post.
Travis Lechien is also accused of providing students - some 18-years-old, some younger - with alcohol in his home.
Students often "hung out" at Lechien's house to drink and smoke flavoured tobacco, according to a court affidavit.
The 31-year-old science teacher was fired from his job at Hanover Central High School for "immorality", Hanover Superintendent Tom Taylor told The Northwest Indiana Times .
Superintendent Taylor said while he has not received any calls or complaints from parents, he says he hopes the community understands the school board acted swiftly with "student safety" in mind.
None of the students involved were reprimanded or punished, Taylor said.
"I think the issue here is with the adult involved," he said.
In addition to teaching chemistry at Hanover Central High School for nine years, Lechien also was the head boys volleyball coach and he sponsored several after-school student activities
He was suspended without pay and charged with three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
