Ray Charles Foundation wants its $3 million back
The Ray Charles Foundation is seriously peeved at Albany State University and is demanding the retu of a $3 million gift, à la Garth Brooks and his reimbursed hospital donation. Ray's foundation claims the cash was given to build a performing arts center more than 10 years ago, and not a brick has been laid. In fact, the drawing plans for the building -- including a theater named for Ray's mom, Aretha -- have even been downsized. Could the arts center be another recession casualty? ASU says the project's price tag could hit $23 million, but it still believes building the center is one way to "do the right thing."
Should ASU give the money back?
