Rapists ‘made boyfriends watch’
Detroit police hunting for six men who took part in ‘violent and coordinated’ gang rapes

A MANHUNT is underway for a group of men who went on a vicious gang raping spree where they robbed two young couples and ordered the male victims to watch as they forced themselves on their girlfriends.

The attacks, dubbed by local press as “violent and coordinated” occurred nearly two hours apart last Thursday night when the young couples were walking on a street when their attackers approached them armed with handguns.

The attacks could be part of a growing network of gang rapists in the area after a similar rape and robbery on July 11.

In both instances, the men took the couples into a “grassy, secluded” alley, stole their clothes and raped the women.

Six men took part in the first attack on a 22-year-old man and 21-year-old woman at 10:00pm, while four took part in the second attack of 19-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man at 11:40pm. In each scenario, all the men joined in the gang rape.

They fled on foot afterwards.

“It’s horrifying,” police Detroit Deputy Chief Charles Fitzgerald told reporters.

“One of the men produced a gun, pointed it at both victims and advised them to go to an alley. Both victims complied. They were forced to the ground. The male victim was forced to watch the female victim get sexually assaulted. Their clothing was taken.

“You try to teach people to walk in pairs and walk in numbers and they are, and the male victim has to lay there and watch this. It’s terrible.”

Detroit police have released sketches of three of the suspects and have pleaded with the public for information regarding their whereabouts. They believe at least one of the men was involved in both attacks.

“Everyone in this community are talking about these crimes,” said Detroit Local 4 reporter Will Jones.

“They want the people responsible off the streets. Now.”

During a call to news.com.au, police confirmed there were no new leads.

“Use your sixth sense,” Deputy Chief Fitzgerald urged the public.

“If something doesn’t feel right, run to a nearby store or something.”
