Newborn dies after pregnant woman Megan Doto shot to death
Police say a shooting over the weekend in northeast Philadelphia has left a pregnant woman and now her newbo baby dead.
The expectant mother was sitting outside her home on Sunday when she was hit by a bullet that was fired a block and a half away, according to police.
Police say the 26-year-old was full-term when someone shot her in the face with a .40-caliber, fully automatic weapon just before noon.
"The bullet traveled down the street hundreds of yards, and struck the female who was sitting in a chair in front of her apartment," said Philadelphia Police Captain Stephen Murianka.
According to authorities, the young woman was caught in the crossfire when the shooting broke out. Her live-in boyfriend, who was not home at the time, is also speaking to detectives.
Police didn't even wait for an ambulance. Officers rushed the young mother to Temple University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
