Unthinkable: Latisha Fisher (left) was arrested Monday after allegedly smothering her 20-month-old son Gavriel Ortiz to death in a bathroom at a Manhattan restaurant

A WOMAN has been arrested after allegedly killing her toddler son in the bathroom of a Manhattan burger restaurant.

A diner allegedly walked into the toilet and saw Latisha Fisher holding her hand over her two-year-old son’s mouth.

The 35-year-old woman reportedly said she was trying to put little Gavriel Ortiz-Fisher “to sleep”, police sources told the New York Daily News.

Fisher then allegedly locked herself in the toilets at 5 Boro Burger in Midtown Manhattan. Workers at the burger chain banged on the door and eventually gained access by using a key.

Tragically, they found the little boy lying in his mother’s arms, unconscious and foaming at the mouth, police sources told the New York Daily News.

Distraught workers told police that Fisher pushed them away when they attempted to perform CPR on the toddler.

“I would describe her as soulless,” a law enforcement official allegedly told the New York Daily News.

“She put her hand over his mouth and smothered him.”

Gavriel was rushed to the nearby Bellevue Hospital, where he died, police said, and Fisher was taken into custody.

Shocked neighbours, who lived next to the woman’s apartment on the Lower East Side, told the Daily News of their devastation.

“He was a beautiful baby. He was very happy. Oh my God,” one woman said.

“I just brought him a stuffed animal the other day. A little bunny with some chocolate, for Easter.”
