Michigan man Richard Gillis III charged with killing his infant son over baby's crying
A Michigan man was behind bars on murder charges Tuesday after slamming his 4-month-old son into a table to stop his crying, authorities said.
Richard Gillis III was also charged with child abuse in the brutal June 14 death of his defenseless little boy inside their mobile home, authorities said.
Tiny Richard Gillis IV lingered on life support for four days after suffering multiple skull fractures, rib fractures and inteal bleeding.
Emergency medical workers were called to Gillis' Commerce Township home four days earlier and found the battered boy.
"In his own words, he plays rough with the child occasionally," Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard told reporters.
"This particular day, we believe there was an injury to the child and that the child was crying … and the crying had inflamed him and he wanted the child to stop crying and as a result of that actually struck the child against the table to make (him) stop crying."
The elder Gillis, 22, came under immediate suspicion because the child was covered with scratches and bruises when help arrived at the mobile home outside Detroit.
