EASTPOINTE, Mich. -- An 84-year-old Eastpointe man who disrupted a public meeting in the Detroit suburb, then struck the police chief in the forehead with a cell phone has been banned from city council meetings for one year.

The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens says Frank Zundl pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct Friday and was ordered to serve 12 months' probation and pay $148 in fines.

Authorities say Zundl spoke against a tax increase during an Aug. 17 council meeting, complained of leg pain, then struck Chief Michael Lauretti as officers placed the retired autoworker on a medical guey. Lauretti did not require stitches.

The incident was captured on video.

Assistant City Attoey Richard Albright says Zundl can't come within 100 feet of City Hall or have contact with Lauretti during his probation.
