McDonald's worker fired for throwing water in a homeless man's face
The McDonald’s employee who was caught on camera throwing water in the face of a homeless man after taunting him with food has been fired.
According to the Detroit Free Press, franchise owner Wise Finley said he was "very disturbed by the inappropriate behavior of this employee."
"This type of behavior is not tolerated in my organization," Finley said. "I expect my employees to treat everyone with dignity and respect, and this was unacceptable. This individual no longer works for my organization."
In a viral video of the incident, the employee calls out to a homeless man, ‘Hey Willie, come here. Do you want a sandwich?’ while waving a burger out of a drive-thru window.
When the man comes up to collect it, the worker throws a cup of water over him instead.
The person filming starts laughing, while the homeless man asks: ‘Why’d you do that?’
After the footage went viral, the sick ‘joke’ was branded ‘vile’ and ‘disgusting’ by viewers on social media.
And a woman from Illinois set up a Gofundme page to help the victim, thought to be a man called Willie who suffers from schizophrenia.
McDonald’s confirmed that the employee, who has not been named, has now been fired.
‘I am very disturbed by the inappropriate behaviour of this employee,’ franchisee Wise Finley said in a statement. ‘It is not tolerated in my organisation.
‘I expect my employees to treat everyone with dignity and respect, and this was unacceptable. This individual no longer works for my organisation.’
