A bizarre footage has emerged of a city ordinance enforcement officer telling a family to stop their barbecue ‘because the smell was wafting in to the street’.

Apparently the family’s neighbors did not like the smell of sizzling sausages and ribs so called the city.

During the film the family is reminded of a rule in force in Pinellas County, Florida, that prohibits barbecue smells wafting across streets.

The official says: ‘I’m only here because of the odor, I’m only here because of the smoke.’

The ordinance enforcement officer then says he has taken pictures of the barbecue smoke: ‘I can smell it, I can smell it right now, but I’m on your property.

‘You’re allowed to have it smell on your property. So that doesn’t count but when I’m on the street that’s when it counts.’

The man filming video says: ‘So we’re supposed to control the smoke and the wind and where it’s blowing?’
