Man afraid of wife faked abduction so he could party with the boys

IF it weren't for real, you'd think the staged kidnapping of a man in Texas was straight out of a script for the next instalment of The Hangover.

Rogelio Andaverde decided he wanted a night out with the boys on the bender. The problem was he was too afraid to ask his wife for a hall pass.

So he decided he would create an excuse to leave the house. He would arrange his own abduction.

There was just one little thing Andaverde failed to consider: his wife would freak out and call the police!

According to a release from the Hildalgo County Sheriff's Office, Andaverde was with his wife, Maria Heandez, in their home in rural Northeast Edinburg when at about 10.30pm two masked men armed with guns forced their way inside and took off with Andaverde.

The fake abduction is like something out of a scene from US hit .

Sheriff Guadalupe Trevino said Heandez called authorities right away, "petrified'' after seeing what she thought was her husband's abduction.

"We took this incident very serious because of the circumstances described to us by the wife,'' Sheriff Trevino said.

"People don't just barge into your house and kidnap you for the hell of it.''

The incident triggered a major air and land search. After several hours without a fresh lead the search was called off.

The next day Andaverde showed up at home around midmoing telling his wife he had been set free. But further police investigation revealed he had staged the abduction to "spend time with friends and party''.

Andaverde has been charged with making a false report to police and his bond was set at $5000.
