Jailed Lottery Winner Freddie Young Wants Judge to Consider Bond
DETROIT - A lottery winner accused in the shooting death of his daughter's landlord has asked a Detroit judge to release him on bond until the case goes to trial.
The Wayne County prosecutor's office said Thursday that Circuit Court Judge Linda Parker will consider Freddie Young's motion and is expected to make a ruling July 1.
The 62-year-old Young is charged with first-degree premeditated murder. The charge allows judges to hold defendants in jail without setting bond.
Young's trial currently is set to begin in January.
He was to have received about $1.6 million after his lottery club won a $46.5 million jackpot in February.
Greg McNicol was slain May 7 outside an apartment building he owned while arguing with Young's adult daughter about unpaid rent.
