Izabel Laxamana: Girl, 13, commits suicide days after ‘father cuts off her hair and posts shaming video on YouTube’

A 13-year-old girl threw herself off an overpass just days after a shaming video was posted online by her father. 

Izabel Laxamana, from Tacoma, Washington, US, died in hospital on Friday May 29.

King County Medical Examiners’ office ruled the death as suicide.

Days before, a 15-second video emerged online of Isabel standing in a room with some of her hair on the floor.

Her father says: ‘The consequences of getting messed up, man, you lost all that beautiful hair, was it worth it?’

‘No,’ she responds quietly.

‘How many times did I wa you?’ he asks.

‘A lot,’ she replies.

It has been widely reported that the video was uploaded to YouTube by her dad as a way of shaming her for her actions, which are unknown.

A Facebook page has now been launched called ‘Justice for Isabel’. The description explains it wants to raise awareness of ‘parent shaming’.
