HARVARD University has issued evacuation orders for four sites on its campus over unconfirmed reports of explosive devices there.

Harvard University released the following message on its Twitter feed just after 9am EST.

Alert: Unconfirmed reports of explosives at four sites on campus: Science Center, Thayer, Sever, and Emerson. Evacuate those buildings now.

"Out of an abundance of caution, the buildings have been evacuated while the report is investigated. Harvard's focus is on the safety of our students, faculty and staff. We will update the media when we have more information," Harvard said in an online statement.

The school tweeted that there have been no reports of any explosions.

Final exams have just begun at the school and all exams for today have been cancelled.

Students and staff have been sent text message alerts advising them to stay away from the campus.

Cambridge and Harvard University Police Department were on the scene as of 9:30am and are investigating. 

  Harvard is in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
