Hannah Anderson didn't know her mother Christina Anderson and brother Ethan were dead
THE 16-year-old US girl who was abducted last week by a family friend and rescued on Saturday didn't know her family had been killed.
Hannah Anderson was reunited with her father, Brett Anderson, on Sunday at an Idaho hospital, FBI spokesman Jason Pack said. He did not provide details on Hannah's health.
FBI teams shot dead James Lee DiMaggio, the 40-year-old who abducted her and triggered a massive manhunt across several Weste states. Authorities believe DiMaggio killed the girl's mother and brother at his home in Califoia near the Mexican border before driving north with the girl.
A retired law enforcement officer had noticed DiMaggio and Hannah Anderson deep in a nature preserve during a horseback ride and later told police.
The San Diego County sheriff said DiMaggio fired at least one shot before authorities killed him.
Authorities have said DiMaggio had an "unusual infatuation'' with Hannah, although her father said he never saw any strange behavior.
Sheriff Bill Gore told KSWB-TV that Hannah didn't know her mother and brother had been killed until she was rescued.
The retired law enforcement officer, 71-year-old Mark John, said Sunday he had noticed that neither DiMaggio nor Anderson was wearing hiking boots or rain gear during their encounter in the wildeess last week. It even appeared that Anderson was wearing pajama bottoms.
Still, nothing about their behaviour raised suspicion that DiMaggio was wanted for murder and kidnapping.
On Thursday afteoon, when Mr John retued home and saw the girl's photographs on the news, he made the connection.
DiMaggio had been close to the family. Brett Anderson has described him as a best friend and said the children thought of him as an uncle.
