Girl born with no hands kicked off theme-park rides
A 17-year-old girl bo without hands was kicked off SeaWorld's Kraken rollercoaster -- after being removed in December from a ride at Universal Studios Orlando. Both parks cite safety issues, saying that riders need to be able to hold onto the pull-down haess with at least one hand.
Katie Champagne's family is taking the case to court, saying the parks are the ones who need to get a grip, arguing that Katie can grab the haess with her arm.
Handicapped-accessibility advocates are coming to Katie's defense, but the Orlando Sentinel's Beth Kassab sees the parks' lawsuit-wary point of view: "It all boils down to the difficult calculus that pits Katie's fun against risk management. And in that equation, Katie's always going to lose."
