Jury selection is under way in the murder trial of George Huguely V, the University of Virginia lacrosse player accused of killing his ex-girlfriend Yeardley Love, who played on the women's lacrosse team.

Before jury selection began Monday, Huguely, of Chevy Chase, Md., pleaded not guilty in Charlottesville Circuit Court to first-degree murder, robbery, burglary, breaking and entering, grand larceny and murder in the commission of a felony. 

Local defense attoey Scott Goodman, who is not is not involved in the case, told Newsplex.com that Huguely's lawyers previously made it clear that Huguely wouldl plead not guilty, but the statement is not official unless it comes from the defendant's mouth.

Twelve jurors and three alteates are to be selected from 160 people. No jurors were seated as of midday.

Yeardley Love was found dead in her apartment on May 3, 2010. Police said Huguely told investigators he kicked in Love's bedroom door and then shook her, causing her head to hit a wall several times.

Attoeys for the 24-year-old Huguely contend that Love, 22, of Cockeysville, Md., died accidentally.
