Gaithersburg Man Phillip Watson Faces Charges after Firing at Police

GAITHERSBURG, Md. - Montgomery County Police have charged a man with attempted murder after they say he fired at police officers. There were no injuries.

Thirty-one-year-old Phillip Watson of Gaithersburg is being held without bond.

Police say early Thursday, plainclothes officers were working in Gaithersburg because of several vehicle thefts. Police say someone called 911 to report a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot; that vehicle was being used by the undercover officers. The caller said he was going outside to check, and was told to stay inside his home.

Officers saw a man outside a home and called out to him. Police say the man tued toward the officer, displayed a handgun and fired several shots at police. One officer fired a shot at the man.
