Five cyclists killed and four injured after hit-and-run truck ploughs into crowd in Michigan
Five bicyclists have been killed and at least four more have been injured after being hit by a pickup truck north of Kalamazoo in Michigan, authorities have said.
The driver of the vehicle is a 50-year-old man from West Michigan who was arrested a short distance away, according to police, but the identities of the cyclists, who are all adults, have not been released.
Police say the five bicyclists were pronounced dead at the scene. The group of nine bicyclist were adults. They were riding in an organized group together. Two of the injured are said to be in a critical condition.
Kalamazoo County Prosecuting Attoey Jeffrey S. Getting told NBC that authorities had already been looking for the blue pickup before the incident.
He said that a number of people had called to ‘express conce’ in the half-hour before the crash.
