Police are searching for two men after three 13-year-old girls, including twins, were killed in a hit-and-run in Califoia.

Lexi and Lexandra Perez and their friend Andrea Gonzalez died while they were trick or treating on Halloween.

Mouers lit candles in their honour at a makeshift memorial on a Santa Ana street coer where they lost their lives on Friday night.

Officers say the driver of a SUV and a male passenger fled the scene without helping the victims, who had been crossing the road.

The impact reportedly caused the youngsters to be thrown more than 100ft.

The dark coloured vehicle was found abandoned nearby and authorities said it was registered to an old out-of-date address.

The twins' mother Cynthia Huerta told CBS News: "It's not fair, it’s not fair. He's free and I'm without my daughters."

She added: "I can't find the words to describe this intense pain."

A memorial fund has been set up online to raise money for a funeral and memorial.

The family have reportedly said they cannot afford burial costs.

Lexi dreamed of being a vet and Alexandra aspired to be a teacher.

Their aunt Magaly Huerta said: "The (hit-and-run driver) hurt us very bad. I don’t know what they were thinking.

"I don't know why they couldn't stop."
