Couple Josh Berry, Robin Berry Killed on Family Trip in Fort Stockton Texas
HOUSTON — A couple from Houston was killed and their three children were injured in a car collision in Fort Stockton, Texas.
Josh Berry, 41, and Robin Berry, 40, were driving home from a family trip in Colorado when the wreck happened.
The family was a part of the Congregation Beth Yeshurun in southwest Houston.
"It's definitely going to affect our community for years to come," family friend Allen Deutsch said.
Friends said the couple gave their hearts and souls to the synagogue, the community and their three children.
"They were able to somehow spend time (volunteering) at the rodeo and being at the synagogue and really giving of themselves to the community," said Deutsch. "Yet they had such a close bond with their kids. It's just heartbreaking and a nightmare."
Late Saturday, the family was traveling along U.S. 285 in Fort Stockton when, investigators said, a car veered into their lane, causing a head-on collision.
The couple died at the scene. Their children, Peter, 9, Aaron, 8, and Willa, 6, were all rushed to Covenant Hospital in Lubbock.
Jordan Sheldon said Aaron is one of his closest friends.
"Robin and Josh were really nice," he said. "I can imagine how bad it was when they got in that car accident. I also hope that Aaron, Peter and Willa recover."
Rabbi Brian Strauss said the community will pull together to help take care of the children now and in the future, because, he said, Robin and Josh would do the same.
"They'd want us all, if we are blessed with children, to hug our kids tonight," said Strauss. "Hopefully God will hear our prayers and they're going to make it."
Sunday night, Aaron and Peter were in critical condition and Willa was in serious condition.
Investigators said the passengers in the car that veered into the Berry's lane were from Phoenix. A 28-year-old woman in that car was killed, and a 31-year-old man was critically injured.
