Couple David Kaltschmidt and Maureen Smith claim Florida Powerball lump sum prize of $327.8M
David Kaltschmidt is about to retire from his job at Northrup Grumman and share his good luck with charities after winning a share of the record $1.5 billion Powerball jackpot with his companion, Maureen Smith.
They have been playing the same numbers for about 30 years, they told a news conference at Florida Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee.
They spent $3 on their winning ticket.
The winning numbers from the January 13 drawing were 4-8-19-27-34 and the Powerball was 10.
The jackpot-winning ticket was purchased at Publix, 3830 Highway A1A in Melboue Beach. The retailer received $100,000 for selling the jackpot-winning ticket.
Since winning, the couple admit their lives have been stressful.
"Lost a lot of sleep, I lost ten pounds, A lot of pacing at night, he explained.
"We worry what's going to happen now that we're no longer in a quiet place, which I'm going to miss," she added.
They said they would be retuing to the Publix in Melboue Beach where they bought the winning ticket one day.
Smith said she chose the lump sum because of her age, 70. Kaltschmidt is 55.
"I want to help special people in my life," said Smith.
First things they want to buy with their new money? For him, its a new car. For her: a massage, she joked.
