Police believe that Ashley Kingsbury, 13, right, and Jordan Anthony, 19, met on Facebook and kept in touch by texting. The two are thought to be heading to Utah.

Investigators are searching the Southwest for a 13-year-old girl who may be headed to Utah with a young man she met online, police said.

Ashley Kingsbury may have met Jordan Anthony, 19, through Facebook and kept in touch by texting. Police believe that the two fled Arizona in his Hyundai Elantra.

Kingsbury was reported missing from her home near Tucson by her parents on Monday, cops said -- four days before her 14th birthday.

Police issued an endangered person alert and believe Kingsbury voluntarily left with Anthony.

"From what investigators have gone through, it has been determined it's possible she left on her own accord," Pima County Sheriff's spokesman Jason Ogan told Tucson's KVOA television.

Kingsbury's parents disputed that scenario, saying there were signs of a struggle.

The girl's bedroom was trashed and there was broken glass on the floor, her parents said.

The teen girl also left a cell phone behind with a text message from Anthony's mother that said, "Don't do anything stupid," her father told Phoenix's KPHO.

"This is any dad's nightmare," her father, Albert Kingsbury, told the TV station.

"Unbearable, unthinkable," said her mother, Carrie Kingsbury. "We just want our daughter to come home."

Local reports said the pair were being tracked in Utah, Arizona and Texas.

Cops described Anthony as 6-feet-1, 140 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He may be driving a silver 2000 Hyundai Elantra with Utah license plate Z75 4UV.

Ashley Kingsbury is 5-feet-2, 95 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes.

"Ashley, please know that Mommy and Daddy aren't angry with you," Albert Kingsbury wrote on a Facebook page set up by a family member. "We love you and just want to know that you are safe. You can email Mommy so we can get you home in time for your birthday."
