A MAN stole his girlfriend’s dog after they split up then cooked it and fed it to her without her realising when the couple later reconciled, police said.

Ryan Eddy Watenpaugh was arrested by police after his ex-girlfriend accused him of orchestrating a long campaign of terror against her lasting several months.

USA Today reported that the woman from Redding, Califoia, said Watenpaugh, 34, had beaten her up a number of times and had held her against her will on at least two occasions.

She told police that on one occasion in early August she had fled her apartment to escape an attack by Watenpaugh. When she retued he was gone and so was her pet Pomeranian.

She and the suspect briefly reconciled in September when Watenpaugh made her dinner. A few days later she received a text from him asking her how the dog, whose name was Bear, had tasted.

Not long after she told police she saw Watenpaugh leave something outside her door. After waiting for him to leave she went out to investigate and found a small bag containing a set of paws that she identified as belonging to Bear.

Watenpaugh has been arrested on charges of domestic violence, false imprisonment, stalking and animal cruelty.
