Three people injured after shootings at L.A. high school

A Califoia school is on lockdown today after three people were shot.

One is in a critical condition and another is a serious condition with one reportedly shot in the head after the incident at the Gardena High School in south-east Los Angeles, police said.

It was not clear whether the shootings were deliberate or whether the weapon was discharged accidentally.

The shooting was reported at 10.30am local time. Gardena police and Los Angeles Unified School District police officers are on the scene.

Parents are being told not to go to the school as the surrounding area has been coered off.

A young male has been taken into custody by officers but it is not yet clear if he is the gunman.

Police were seen laying him on the ground in handcuffs and he has reportedly been escorted off the campus.

 

A school spokesman said that no one was allowed on or off the campus.

The school has over 3,000 students and 145 faculty members.

The incident comes just 10 days after the country was stunned by the gun massacre in Tucson, Arizona.
