7-month-old handicapped baby thrown off roof by his depressed mother Sonia Hermosillo dies: cops
A 7-month-old disabled boy whose mother tossed him off the roof of a parking garage in Southe Califoia on Monday night died from his injuries Wednesday, police said.
Noe Medina, Jr., was allegedly hurled from the fourth-floor parking garage of Children's Hospital of Orange County, where he received therapy twice a week, by his mother, Sonia Hermosillo, 31.
Hermosillo, 31, allegedly suffered from severe post-partum depression and couldn't cope with her son's medical problems, the Orange County Register reported.
The mother reportedly took off Noe's specialized helmet meant to correct the baby's plagiocephaly, also known as flat-head syndrome, before she threw him over the parking railing, the Register reported.
Doctors at the hospital also treated the infant for congenital muscular torticollis, a twisting of the neck to one side, the paper reported.
"She didn't look at our son as normal," said Noe Medina, the baby's father, to the Register. "She didn't accept him. She didn't accept that he was like this."
Medina, 29, said Hermosillo had been hospitalized for post-partum depression and didn't want the child.
After tossing her baby, Hermosillo calmly validated her parking inside the hospital and drove off, prosecutors said.
Prior to the boy's death Hermosillo had been charged with attempted murder and felony child abuse but prosecutors indicated charges would be elevated to murder Wednesday, the Register reported.
