World's most awful poster claims women lie about sexual assault
When posters mimicking the well-known anti-sexual-assault "Don't be that guy" campaign showed up on the University of Alberta campus, it didn't take long for the outrage to spread like wildfire. Posters with the tagline "Don't be that girl" read, "Just because you regret a one night stand, doesn't mean it wasn't consensual," and "Lying about sexual assault = a crime."
While the group responsible for the posters, Men's Rights Edmonton, claims it wished to create discussion, critics condemned the posters as an offensive example of victim-blaming. “I want to make it clear that that is so inaccurate,” said Karen Smith, executive director of the Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton. “Nobody would report sexual assault needlessly because it is a grueling process to go through.” In fact, rapes are an underreported crime and false accusations of rape are extremely rare. — [Source] [Source]
