Amanda Morris received seven stitches to her face after the unprovoked attack left her with cuts across her mouth

Shocking video shows the moment a woman was slashed across the face in a seemingly random attack as she walked to work.

Amanda Morris was left with huge cuts across her nose and mouth and needed seven stitches after a man approached her in the middle of the street.

The seemingly unprovoked assault took place in Chelsea in New York City at 5.50am yesterday moing.

In the video , a man is seen rushing towards Amanda, before reaching out his arm towards her face.

He then immediately makes a run for it, as Amanda clutches her head in pain.

Somehow, Amanda managed to make it to work, where colleagues called for medical assistance.

The 24-year-old, from Brooklyn, later took to Facebook to write about her ordeal: "Today was a difficult day that I never thought I would have to go through.

"I was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time and put in an unfortunate situation.

"I was slashed on my face with an unidentifiable object thought to be a razor/box cutter.

"It was unprovoked and I did not have any association with the man prior to this incident. We have never seen each other before."

She added: "The NYPD was able to find the street footage of the man but we are unable to make out his face at the time.

According to the New York Daily News, Amanda then went on to describe the man, who she said was walking irregularly and "appeared to be under the influence."

She said: "Always, always trust your gut insticts. Even in a safer neighbourhood such as Chelsea, you should always stay alert and aware of your surroundings.

"Had I crossed the street, this could have been avoided. Never feel that you have to stay in an uncomfortable situation out of politeness/fear/etc."

Amanda was taken to Bellvue Hospital after her ordeal where she received seven stitches.

Officers arrested 41-year-old Kari Bazemore of the Bronx Wednesday night and charged him with the assault.

A good Samaritan recognized Bazemore from the surveillance footage police had released as he walked near St. Patrick’s Cathedral around 6 p.m.

He followed the suspect and alerted a pair of mounted NYPD officers. Police from the Midtown North Precinct took Bazemore into custody, and he was charged with felony assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
