UPS cargo plane pilot, co-pilot die in crash
The US FAA reports a UPS cargo plane has crashed while on approach to Birmingham, Alabama, airport.
The aircraft crashed at about 6am (local time) at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth Inteational Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration said, and was an A300 coming from Louisville, Kentucky (a 45-minute jouey).
The crash caused at least two explosions, NBC News affiliate WVTM said.
Birmingham mayor William Bell later confirmed the pilot and co-pilot were killed saying, "It's my understanding the only individuals involved were pilot and co-pilot."
The area of the crash was once a neighbourhood, but is now an open field, owned by the airport, reports WVTM-TV in Alabama.
The crashed flight was confirmed as UPS 1354.
