Texas teacher Alexandria Vera is sentenced after admitting to having sex with student

Alexandria Vera, 24, fell in love with the eight grade student after he began commenting on her pictures on Instagram.

Court records show Vera then went on to have daily sex with the boy for nine months, who she claimed in court "looked older than 13".

A classmate of the student revealed that their relationship had spilled into school life, with the teen groping the teacher from behind during an English lesson.

Vera's six-year-old daughter even began calling the 13-year-old boy daddy, the court heard.

After their illicit relationship was discovered, Vera aborted the couple's baby and went on the run last summer.

After handing herself in, authorities found pictures of Vera having sex with the boy on her phone.

She had claimed that the boy's parents supported their relationship and approved of them having a baby together.

The brunette English teacher had faced 30 years in prison after she was accused of continuous sexual abuse but received a lesser sentence after an early guilty plea of aggravated sexual assault of a child.

State district judge Michael McSpadden jailed the English teacher for 10 years to send a message.

He said: "We want our teacher to educate our children. To keep their hands off our children, to prepare them for the future."

The boy, who is now 14, is currently in foster care.
