Terrified American Airlines passengers flee as jet erupts into flames in Chicago

THIS is the moment passengers fled in terror after a "massive fire" engulfed an American Airlines plane at Chicago O'Hare Inteational Airport.

Seven people people have reportedly been hurt after the blaze at O'Hare Inteational Airport in Chicago.

Heavy smoke can be seen billowing from the aircraft in alarming photos.

Shocking footage shared on Twitter shows terrified witnesses — most thought to be passengers — run away from the buing enfeo.

Some tweets claim "part of the right wing" was "completely bued".

Alarming pictures show the plane's right side charred a dark black. 

Flight 383 bound for Miami was forced to abort takeoff because of a punctured tyre at around 2.35pm local time, it is understood.

The Boeing 767's engine then caught fire, officials said.

Emergency inflatable slides have been deployed and the runway at O'Hare Inteational Airport in Chicago is closed.

American Airlines said all the passengers and crew members were able to evacuate the plane.

The Boeing 767 can hold up to around 270 passengers.
