Springfield cops arrest accused gang member Maurice Bailey
SPRINGFIELD - An 18-year-old gang member was arrested Monday in Springfield.
Maurice Bailey was handcuffed and charged with Carrying a Firearm Without a License and Possession of Ammo. Police say he was carrying a .38 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun fully loaded.
Detectives from the Gang Unit assigned to patrol Mason Square and look for suspected "gang activity" spotted a local gang member at 9: 15 p.m. walking on Easte Avenue near Lebanon Street. Detective Sean Condon noticed Bailey walking "funny" like he was trying to hold on to a heavy firearm.
The officer noticed that when he stopped to talk to the suspect that the young gang member was concealing a handgun.
Bailey will be arraigned Tuesday in Springfield District Court.
