South Carolina man John Shiffner accused of bigamy after second wife discovers third wife

Asuthorities say a South Carolina accused of bigamy after deputies said his second wife discovered he had married a third time, according to a sheriff's office report.

Deputies said they were contacted in September by a woman claiming to be John Shiffner's wife.

The woman told deputies she married Shiffner, 39, and they lived together in Alabama but they were never divorced. According to the report, Shiffner had since married another woman in Union County, SC.

Deputies said they checked court records and leaed Shiffner married his first wife in Florida but divorced her. The report said he married his second wife in Alabama then his third wife in South Carolina, knowing he never divorced his second wife.

As far as deputies know, they said there are no additional wives. Shiffner was arrested and charged with bigamy on Wednesday.
