Riviera hotel and casino comes down

The famous hotel and casino that was the inspiration for the Martin Scorsese mob hit “Casino” has gone bust, or rather boom.

The iconic Las Vegas building is no more after an implosion in the early hours of the moing which toppled the Riviera hotel and casino. The planned blast was the first of two implosions planned to bring down the building.

When the Riviera opened its doors on April 20, 1955 to the tunes of Liberace, Its stage became home to all-stars Elvis, Frank Sinatra, Dean Marin, Sammy Davis, and Barbra Streisand.

It continued running until the close in 2015. The property has been bought by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitor’s authority for the planned expansion of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
