Report: No Drugs, Alcohol In Twin Kristin Hermeler Who Died In Suicide Pact
DENVER -- An Australian twin who died in bizarre suicide at a Colorado gun range that wounded her sister had no drugs or alcohol in her system.
The Arapahoe County Coroner's Office released the autopsy results Monday on Kristin Hermeler. The report noted that Hermeler, 29, had a history of despondency, but stated that no suicide note was found at the Family Shooting Center at Cherry Creek State Park, where she died on Nov. 15.
Surveillance video taken at the shooting range shows the two women collapsing together in a stall at the shooting range. The video does not show the actual shootings.
Kristin's sister, Candice, shot herself in the head as Kristin shot herself in the mouth, according to the autopsy report. They "virtually simultaneously suffered gunshot wounds to the head," the coroner's report stated.
The two women had taken a cab to the shooting center from a Denver-area motel. The guns they used were rented at the shooting center. The manager of the shooting center told 7NEWS the women were in good spirits when they rented the handguns.
Investigators with the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office talked to the surviving twin while she was hospitalized and said Candice told them she and her sister had entered a suicide pact, but wouldn't say why. Candice was discharged from the hospital the day before Thanksgiving and retued to Australia.
The sheriff's office said earlier that no charges would be filed in the case and the investigation was closed.
The shooting drew inteational news coverage and attention.
