New York City police say a student has been arrested after brutally beating his principal after he asked him to tu down the music in his headphones.

According to the police report, New York City public high school principal Dr. Matthew Tossman had asked 18-year-old Luis Penzo on the lower Manhattan campus on Monday to tu down his music-blaring headphones.

When Penzo refused, police say Tossman tried to remove them and was punched and beaten.

"Anytime anyone who is hurt in any of our schools, be it a child or an adult, it's a cause for conce so going back and reviewing what happened is important," Schools Chancellor Carmen Farina said. "But the consequences were, if you do something, you're going to be arrested."

The student was arraigned on assault charges. Tossman was treated for swelling and cuts around his eyes and is said to be recovering.
